A Grand Excursion was conducted in the Hamatonbetsu and Nakatonbetsu, Hokkaido from September 1 to 4, 2025. This excursion is a field practice for third-year undergraduate students, organized by each laboratory.

In this excursion, meteorological observations were conducted at two locations, Hamatonbetsu and Nakatonbetsu, with the aim of observing land and sea breeze. Specifically, ground observations of wind direction and speed, temperature, relative humidity, pressure, precipitation, and radiation budget were conducted at fixed points in Hamatonbetsu and Nakatonbetsu. Additionally, vertical profiles of temperature, humidity, and pressure were observed using UAVs (drones) at both locations. In Hamatonbetsu, vertical profiles of wind direction were also observed using pilot balloons.

The weather was not always favorable, but the third-year students were able to take on the challenge of their first full-scale observations and gain valuable experience. In the future, we plan to analyze the obtained observational data and prepare a report by the end of the fiscal year.
